India vs Afghanistan: India is all set to take on Afghanistan in their first Super 8 match of T20 World Cup 2024 in Bridgetown, Barbados today i.e. June 20. Following India’s entry in the Super 8, the men in blue are set to wield their bats at Kensington Oval. Speaking of weather in Barbados, with many matches were abandoned in the US, media reports have stated that the weather won’t play spoilsport during the match today against India vs Afghanistan.
As per Sportingnews.com, the pitch at Kensington is known for its bounce which could be in favour the bowlers. Due to the bounce, the initial overs of the game could be challenging for batsmen. Additionally, the report also highlighted that the Kensington Oval has so far hosted 27 T20Is of which 17 matches were won by the team batting first while 8 by the team batting second, however, two ended with no result.
With Team India currently struggling in opening order, it could pose a challenge. Kohli who is opening with Captain Rohit Sharma has failed to bring runs in the game. During the India vs Ireland match on June 5, Kohli scored 1 runs off 5 balls. In the next match against Pakistan, the former skipper scored 5 runs off 3 balls while in the match against the US on June 12, Kohli was out on golden duck. While some have blamed the US pitches for his poor performance while some said Kohli is better to bat at No. 3.
On the other hand, it could be an advantage for Afghanistan. Their players Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran are currently in the Top 5 list of the players with hisest runs. Gurbaz is at number 3 with 167 runs in 4 matches, Zadran is at number 5 with 152 runs. On the other hand, Afghanistan bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi is at the top with 12 wickets.
Despite all this, the Google prediction meter shows that India has 80 percent chance of winning today’s match against Afghanistan.
