Lok Sabha News: Chaos ensued in the Lok Sabha after BJP MP from Bareilly Chhatra Pal Singh Gangwar ended his oath with ‘Jai Hindu Rashtra’. Gangwar’s statement seemed to have been made in a tit-for-tat reply to AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi’s ‘Jai Palestine’.
While being sworn is as an MP in the 18th Session of the Lok Sabha, Owaisi ended his oath with the words, “Jai Bhim, Jai Meem, Jai Telangana, Jai Palestine.” Owaisi, who has been elected from the Hyderabad seat for his fifth term, took oath in Urdu. He also recited a prayer before taking oath.
INDIA bloc members vehemently opposed the ‘Jai Hindu Rashtra’ of the BJP MP from Bareilly and said that it goes against the principles of the Constitution of India. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav objected to the ‘Jai Hindu Rashtra’ comment of Gangwar and said that “it was against the values of the Constitution.”
According to reports, Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi chanted ‘Jai Palestine’ as he ended his oath as an elected member of the Lok Sabha.
Owaisi later said, “Other members are also saying different things… I said ‘Jai Bheem, Jai Telangana, Jai Palestine’. How is it wrong? Tell me the provision of the Constitution? You should also listen to what others say. I said what I had to. Read what Mahatma Gandhi had said about Palestine.”
On being asked the reason for saying ‘Jai Palestine’, Owaisi said, “Waha ki awaam mahroom hai (The people there are destitute). Mahatma Gandhi has said so many things regarding Palestine and one can go and read.”
Owaisi’s remarks sparked controversy, prompting BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje to object to his ‘Jai Palestine’ statement. The chair assured her that only approved discourse would be recorded. Owaisi clarified that he made his statement within parliamentary rules.
Union Minister G Kishan Reddy later criticised Owaisi’s slogan calling it “absolutely wrong”.
“This is against the rules of the House. He does not say ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ while living in India… People should understand that he does unconstitutional work while living in the country,” Reddy told ANI.
Meanwhile, BJP MP from Ghaziabad, Atul Garg said ‘Narendra Modi Zindabad’ at the end of his oath taking. The Opposition INDIA bloc opposed the same following which MP Atul Garg returned to the podium and said Dr. Hedgewar Zindabad.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also took oath in Lok Sabha as a Member of Parliament (MP) from Raebareli on Tuesday with a copy of the Constitution in his hand.
He was part of the remaining MPs who took their oaths today after a total of 262 newly elected MPs, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, did so on Monday, the inaugural session of the 18th Lok Sabha.
