Land Rover is readying the first-ever Range Rover Electric which will make its debut later this year. Having opened order books in December last year, the automaker has now announced that the electric Range Rover has garnered 28,700 expressions of interest so far. The company previously announced in February that the company had over 16,000 interested buyers for its all-electric offering.
The new Range Rover Electric will be an electrified derivative of the current Range Rover on sale. The latest generation model was always designed to support an electric powertrain, in addition to internal combustion engines (ICE) as well as plug-in hybrid tech. Do note that an ‘expression of interest’ does not necessarily translate into a purchase. However, it goes on to show the strong demand the automaker can come to expect for the upcoming offering.

Apart from the expressions of interest for the Range Rover Electric, Land Rover also revealed that the demand for the Range Rover SV, its most expensive iteration of the luxury SUV, doubled in FY2024 with 4,099 units sold last fiscal. This includes 20 units of the bespoke Range Rover SV Sadaf Edition launched specifically in Qatar.
Land Rover previously said its first electric offering would be the “quietest and most refined Range Rover ever created.” At the same time, it will retain the model’s iconic design and go-anywhere capabilities. The automaker shared a clearer glimpse of the new RR Electric while it was undergoing testing in the Arctic and the deserts of the Middle East.
The Range Rover Electric will also retain its luxurious cabin with the minimalist design as well as the water wading, towing and all-terrain technology seen on the ICE derivatives. The upcoming offering will be underpinned by an 800-volt architecture that will enable fast charging on the electric luxury SUV. It will be built at the automaker’s Solihull facility in the UK alongside the other versions. Meanwhile, the batteries and electric drive units will be assembled at JLR’s new Electric Propulsion Manufacturing plant in Wolverhampton, UK, which has been set up with an investment of 356 million Pounds.

While the Range Rover Electric is set to be unveiled towards the end of this year, reports suggest that Land Rover is looking to locally manufacture its range in India at its parent Tata Motors facility in Tamil Nadu. While there has been no confirmation from the company, the move would be a bold one by the British automaker possibly bringing down the prices for several imports. Land Rover locally assembles select models in India at its facility near Pune, Maharashtra.
